Classroom Rules

COMING SOON!

Notes

A note is required from you if your child has a change in his/her dismissal routine.  If your child will be leaving a school day early or coming in late, checking in at the office is necessary.

You may also want to let me know of any changes in your family’s routine which could alter your child’s mood at school (i.e. if your child were being taken care of by grandparents or if a relative became sick).  In this case, feel free to either send in a note with your child or send me an email.

  Homework

Homework is assigned Monday through Thursday nights.  For third graders, homework consists of 20-30 minutes of nightly independent reading and 30 minutes of additional homework that I assign.  Students are encouraged, but not required, to read over the weekend.  A note from you is required if your child is not able to complete a homework assignment because of special circumstances.  If a homework assignment is not turned in on time (and there is no parental excuse note), a notice will be sent home to alert you to the missing assignment.  I ask that you please sign this notice and give it to your child to return to me the next day.

All children record their homework on a weekly assignment sheet chosen by the third grade teachers.  This assignment sheet should be brought into school everyday.  On the back of the assignment sheet, children will be asked to record their nightly independent reading on the reading log.  I ask that you please put your signature on this paper at the end of each week to confirm your child has read for 20-30 minutes daily.  Your child will be turning in this paper at the end of each week.

I greatly appreciate the important role parents have in establishing and confirming a homework routine, and I hope you will please call or email me with any questions.

  Student of the Week

Each child will have a turn to share some of his/her favorite things that will be on display in our room.  Pictures of your child, prizes ever won, certificates received or special possessions would be appropriate to bring in.  You will receive several days’ notice before your child’s week is assigned.

  Birthdays

I am more than happy to celebrate your child's birthday in school.  However, I ask that you please do not send in food to celebrate your child's birthday.  Our school has adopted a "no food" party policy in order to ensure the safety and health of children who have diet restrictions.  I very much appreciate your consideration to this policy.
